About Our Area

Spring Garden Township is located in York County in south central Pennsylvania. The Township surrounds York City on three sides with a piece of the city actually separating Spring Garden into two parts. Spring Garden was part of Hellam Township from 1739 to 1822. In 1822 Spring Garden was split from Hellam and named after the suburban area north of Philadelphia. The area of what is now Springettsbury Township was part of Spring Garden from 1822 to 1891. In the spring of 1891 the courts acted on results of an election poll that decided to separate the western suburban area of Spring Garden from the agricultural interests of Springettsbury to the east.
